Green Building
Lets all be environmentally friendly!
Some green things:
- if you know you’re going to be away from your computer for only a few hours, turn it on hibernate, don’t turn it off. Turning your computer on and off really used up a lot of energy
- cleaning gets rid of dust mites that are air pollutants (make sure to use natural cleaners [pine oil])
- 1/4 baking soda, 1/2 vinegar can clean your drain (don’t use unnatural chemicals)
- buy in bulk
- make a compost bin with non acids (vegetables work well)
- only buy things within a 500 mile radius. The energy is takes to transport goods is rediculous
- a full fridge saves energy
- don’t use non bio degradable packaging like bubble wrap or beans
- buy sustainable materials (natural laytex, wool, down feathers, horsehair, buckwheat, cotton [watch for pesdicides], hemp, natural linoleum, stone, and silk [be careful where you get it from, Indian countries have started burning silk worms alive to get them to secrete more silk], wood, ceramic tile, bamboo [local], concrete, cork)
- spider plants take pollutants out of the hair (brown tips mean it’s working)
- TV should be 10-15′ away from your bed (radiation)

- Along the same vein as turning off your computer, keep in mind how much time you spend idling your car. One engine start = only 10 seconds of idle time. Remember that the next time you’re stuck in bad traffic or at a long light.
- I noticed concrete listed as one of your “green” materials – it’s really, REALLY not. Producing one ton of concrete releases slightly more than a ton of CO2 into the atmosphere. It’s one of the worst offenders out there.

Not nearly as much …
Not nearly as much as keeping it on for several hours. Yes, there’s a surge when you turn on a computer, but it’s not nearly as much power as is consumed over several hours of low-level activity. Computers, your monitor, your cell phone charger, your TV, your mixer; anything like that drains standby power whenever it’s plugged in. Best to plug it all into a power bar and turn the whole shebang (from the bar itself!) on and off whenever you need it.

Nice to see vids …
Nice to see vids like this, where the spokesperson is just your average guy, looks like a skater, but he speaks about the environment in a very sound way, without being or sounding like a nerd, or a fanatc. By this I don’t mean that before watching this video I didn’t subscribe to the environmental cause, because I thought it was just for freaks and fanatics, but that those who do have that mentality might change their minds after watchng this.

Leave your computer …
Leave your computer on standby? When you’re “only” leaving it for a few hours? Seriously? I was always told that leaving things on standby instead of turning them off was one of the scourges of the environment.

I need to change my light bulbs. Fluorescent light bulbs seem brighter and more pure to me anyway. If you happen to break one though, be careful, they have a bit of mercury in them.

I totally agree. I …
I totally agree. I hope the next executive branch deals with these problems. If America doesn’t start developing solar technology we are going to fall behind economically within the next 20 to 40 years to countries that develop and sell inovative products. Why doesn’t anyone see this?

This is a totally random comment but I actually stopped eating gum when I got to college and was allowed to do so LOL
I guess the restriction of Elementary – Highschool made the gum chewing cooler? Haha .. anyway .. great video regardless
I changed all my light bulbs and I usually take a walk when I need something that’s close to my house.

Logically, someone …
Logically, someone should be putting pressure on the home improvement stores to sell the lumber you describe. Also, the electric companies, state and federal governments should be giving more incentives for green building practices to help offset higher costs.
