Can you identify a Peru fruit that I found at the market?
Its local name is pronounced pee-kay, and it looks like a big locust-bean pod except that it is green and fuzzy. I found it only at the fruit market in Cuzco, and when I opened it up it had a row of white fleshy fruit like peas in a pod. Each fruit has a hard, smooth, brown seed inside. Can you tell me the English or Latin name for this fruit? Other than locust pods, I have never seen anything like it.
Dean M.: Yes, the fruit in your photo match what I saw. Can anyone tell me more about pacaes?
I think you might be referring to "pacaes". This is what these look like: http://www.flickr.com/photos/alicia_lucho/2456442715/
