Phuket Thailand Fruit Vendor Tour 2008
Have you ever visited one of the Thai fruit stand vendors? You would be surprised what these guys have packed on their little vendor stands. You can get a variety of fruits from these guys from watermelon, guava, papaya, pineapple, mangos and much more.
Because these guys have to make a living the fruit is a bit more expense than buying it at the open market, but compared to western prices you just cant beat it.
I love to go around and video these Phuket food stalls, I will try to get you some real insight on these hard working guys, they really do put out a great service to all the tourists that come to Phuket. I get to know several of these vendors overtime, once thing I have noticed is once they know you they generally dont take advantage of you on the price.
Experiencing Thailands fruits is a must when you do come to visit, stop by one of these fruit stands and try a number of these famous tropical fruits, youll be amazed. But if you really want to see some of Thailands famous fruits go to the market where the selection is enormous and the prices are very cheap.
Thank you so much for stopping by and check back often for more of my Phuket videos. Do you love Phuket as much as I do? Check out my new addition to Phuketdining.com; the Phuket Dreamer http://phuketdreamer.ning.com/ where you will see tons more pictures and stories about this wonderful Island in paradise.
Sincerely,
Keith

Pak Khlong Talat (Thai: ปากคลองตลาด: market at the mouth of the canal) is a market in Bangkok, Thailand that sells flowers, fruits, and vegetables. It is the primary flower market in Bangkok[1][2] and has been cited as a “place[] of symbolic values” to Bangkok residents.[3] It is located on Chak Phet Road and adjacent side-streets, close to Memorial Bridge.[2] Though the market is open 24 hours, it is busiest before dawn, when boats and trucks arrive with flowers from nearby provinces.[4][5]
The market has a long history. During the reign of Rama I (17821809), a floating market took place on the site of the modern Pak Khlong Talat; by the reign of Rama V (18681910), it had changed to a fish market.[2] The fish market was eventually converted to today’s produce market, which has existed for over 60 years.[1][2] The market’s focus has shifted from produce to flowers as the Talat Thai market on the outskirts of Bangkok has become a more attractive site for produce wholesaling.[1]
Most of the flowers sold in the market are delivered from Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, and Samut Songkhram provinces, though flowers that require cooler growing temperatures may come from as far away as Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai.[2] The market’s produce selection is extensive and is delivered from across the country.[1]
The market accommodates both consumers and wholesalers and has a wide variety of customers. Many local florists visit the market in the early morning hours to stock their shops for the coming day.[6] The urban poor who make a living stringing and selling phuang malai (flower garlands) buy sacks of jasmine and marigold blossoms.[6] Though the market is documented in guidebooks,[7] it receives few foreign tourists.[6]

Durian fruit is known world-wide for smelling the worst of any other food, probably in the world. Durians smell like rotten eggs, sewer, toilet, and flatulence all at once.
But, it has a heavenly taste most foreigners (outside Asia) can’t get used to. I love it!

Special report for Andaman News NBT TV (VHF dial) at 8.30am & perhaps repeats on Phuket Cable TV channel 1 at 3.30pm, 7pm & 1am, broadcast to Phang Nga, Krabi & Phuket provinces & maybe Mazz Radio FM108 at 7pm in Phuket, Friday 29 May 2009 & http://thainews.prd.go.th/newsenglish/ & www.YouTube.com/AndamanNews Send comments to AndamanNews@yahoo.com
The rainy days are with us again in the Andaman region right now. On a heavy rainy day, rubber plantation work is impossible. Villagers in Thayu of Phang-Nga then turn to harvest their fruits in orchards to put products on sale and urge people to consume Thai tropical fruits. More details are in our special report today.
Driving on the main road from Phang-Nga to Phuket, we can see many fruit stalls along roadsides. The distinctive ones are in Thakuathung district at a village called Thayu. There are many fresh direct from orchards tropical fruits put on sale at cheap prices.
They are local durians, rambutan and mangosteen, all direct from the farms at their back yards. Some may not like the smell of durian, but to many, like most Thais and Chinese or those from Brunei Darussalam, they are fond of durian also known as the king of fruit. Not only freshly sold, the durian can be transformed into preserved food, with no additional preserved substance added.
( Shopper / consumer: Whenever I pass on this road, I stop to shop for some fruits. They are good quality and I do want to support Thai farmers. They work hard and I also love Thai fruits.)
The villagers here have been living with sustainable economy or sufficiency principles advocated by HM the King.
A local scholar, Uncle Per as he is called by many, or Sompong Pornpol, plays leading roles in educating and being a role model for residents here. He is not only good at farming but also lays out or suggests marketing plans or sales channels for local farmers. Most fruits are available at economical prices to attract repeat customers. Some are sold at wholesale for middlemen to take to other provinces.
(Sompong Pornpol / local scholar Our fruits are popular among Thais and Chinese tourists in particular. The Chinese visitors normally like to taste and we make good sales when they visit. We welcome Thais or foreigners to taste or try out our products. We want Phang-Nga fruits to be well-known whether you buy from Thakua Thung or Thayu. )
(Mayuree Chinda / Orchard farmer I do not earn income from rubber plantations in the rainy season. We rely mainly on fruits sales. )
This is another good example of Thai agriculturalists who adapt and apply to seasons. They of course need plans and unity and get together as a group to share and earn a living and they said they want to promote Thai or tropical fruit consumption. If you drive near those fruit stalls, they kindly request that you stop by and try freshly picked Thai fruits in Phang-Nga.

http://www.hobotraveler.com/blogger.html There is morning Vegetable and Fruit Market just off Khao San Road in Bangkok, Thailand. I would wager the mass of Vegetarians on Khao San Road are too hung over to ever see this Food Market. It starts at sunrise and ends just after 8, maybe towards 9 am.
I wonder when mornings became unfashionable, really a BIG mistake.
