Is the world heading for a food crisis?

The United Nations is warning that there needs to be a wholesale change in the way food is produced as fast-rising prices threaten to push millions of people deeper into poverty. Are you worried about the cost of basic foods?

The amount of food riots has increased. Food prices in this country jumped the most in 17 years. Overpopulation and poor planning of land for farming….yes, we are in deep doo-doo.

The cost of basic foods is directly related to the price of petrol. And yes we do and we need to distribute better and faster here in the US. There are plenty of new methods and interesting and even cheaper methods to do it. It’s to bad our policy is left in 1956.

We are the bread basket of the world, so if we are it can only help our economy, when food becomes more important than oil, I guess we have achieved our spot on the top rung of the food chain again.

The only countries that face any sort of crisis, are third-world countries already in a crisis. These countries cannot get any poorer or more hungry than they are now.

So nothing is going to happening, that is already happening.

Yes we’re headed towards a crisis. the worlds population is expected to double by the middle of this century. It is felt that there will not be nearly enough water to irrigate farm lands.

Most of the growth will be in third world countries. Of which a great many of those will immigrate to Europe and the U.S.. The worlds predominate religion will be Muslim. America sorely needs to establish a long policy of zero tolerance of religion in it’s government if our nation is to survive.

no it is called sensationalized panic – there is no food shortage, just a shortage of people willing to supply food for free to the UN. When we send food to the starving nations, the warlords grab it and sell it. losing battle.

Sure, and much of the reason is due to crop failure from extreme climate events such as drought, late freezes and flooding…

On the other hand, a reduction in meat consumption would result in more available food, as there is a 90 % loss in the conversion of grain calories to meat calories…

I really hope not. The resources we put into American cattle alone could feed 8 billion people (basically the whole world over). So there needs to be a drastic reduction in meat consumption. Then we won’t need to regulate population growth (which would be horrible). But I remember reading about a study that was done in 1952, based on resources, etc, the results of which claimed that the world would basically end by 1980.

World population keeps increasing. That means more land is used for housing, roads and utilities instead of farming. It’s a simple formula, which will bring us to a point where there will be a shortage of food for everyone. Eventually it will result in global war.

It has been in a food crisis for decades, the problem is starving people have no money to purchase food. I am not worried, we have an abundance here in the US. I can grow just about anything in my backyard and can water it as much as I would like.
